We now know who are the lead candidates for the upcoming elections. The winner will have a tremendous task ahead, on an Europe were populists and eurosceptic movements are on the rise supported by a growing feeling of detachment between the citizens and the EU is more and more visible and seriously worryingly. Never like before an election meant so much to so many people, because it from this election that the future of the EU will come. This fact alone is of immense importance and all citizens of the EU should feel very proud of their role and their power to impact history by considering what type of Europe they desire for their children.
The EU needs serious reform, needs to become more democratic, more transparent and more accountable to their citizens. The way in that reform should be made is open to discussion and many options are available. I hope the winning candidate has the will and the power to bring the necessary change to this great European Union.
